It worked great, thanks.

You should have configured it as follows:

./configure LDFLAGS=-L/usr/lib64/mysql

The configure script fails to find mysql libraries which are installed to /usr/lib64/mysql

To fix, alter its contents to check /usr/lib64/mysql as well...:

for path in "" /usr/lib64/mysql /usr/lib/mysql /usr/local/lib/mysql
